Is Vision Insurance Worth It?
Vision insurance covers eye care costs that health insurance plans do not. While your health insurance will typically cover eye injuries or emergencies, individual vision insurance serves a different purpose.
Individual (or supplemental) vision insurance is designed to fill gaps in coverage and save you money in several ways.
Most vision plans include routine eye exams, savings and allowances on prescription eyeglasses, and contact lenses. Asking if vision insurance is worth it comes down to simple math and comparing the cost and benefits of a plan.
If the cost of an eye exam is $50-$250 and a new pair of glasses with frames and lenses runs $300, then a $20 a month vision plan is probably worth it.
